The first team began their 2012/2013 league campaign with a trip to face Edinburgh City 2 and Dundee who were playing their first matches as a full side after a successful season as a development team last year.  After one or two slight hiccups in the front office the team found themselves without the comforts of the enterprise cars to which they have become accustomed and instead embarked on an eye opening bus journey through the magnificent city of Dundee.  However, courtesy of great vigilance from everyone, the whole team (even Stella!), made it to the sports centre a comfortable two hours before our first match.

First up was the clash between Ed City 2 and Dundee refereed by one Ben Cook – the sexy moose himself.  The game was very tight the whole way through but the outstanding officiating display truly grabbed and engaged the audience in a game which one of the two teams eventually won by a number of goals to slightly less goals.

Then it was the turn of Saints 1 to take the field against Ed City 2.  As defending league champions and fresh off a trip to France for the Europa Cup qualifiers Saints 1 were targeting this as a must win game and the result was never in doubt from the outset.  Having lost a number of players to graduation over the summer, the game saw a good opportunity to try lots of different divisional combinations and give a number of players their first experience of first team korfball and the Saints ran out comfortable victors 10-4.

Next saw another must win game against Dundee and the play continued in a very similar fashion to the Ed City 2 game with the Saints eventually claiming a 13-2 win.  A highlight of this game was definitely that it featured a good variety of names of the scorers sheet - some girls were even allowed to score despite the fact that that’s clearly not SAKC style.

Next up the Saints will face Ed Uni 1 and Ed City 1 on Saturday 27th October in what can only be described as a titanic clash of Scottish korfballing powerhouses.  It’s the place to be.
